This summer I started calling AIM, “Chicago’s Best Kept Secret!”
It amazes me sometimes when people that live nearby our school say that they never even knew that there was an art school in the neighborhood. Now, this is “like” the top of my 5th year here so of course I might not be the most objective about the matter BUT I think that a lot of people do know about AIM (just like YOU) but they just can’t believe that we are here!!! Right on the South Side!!! It makes sense though. Because think about it…since the 70s the arts programs have been stripped away from inner city schools!
Outside of a select few specialized arts schools in Chicago, most parents have had to move out of the city or pay a pretty penny to enroll their children into art schools and art programs. Also, the free public schools often make students audition or submit portfolios to enter their illustrious walls. In turn, many of our children have missed out on programs and courses that could enhance their Artistic inclinations and gifts. So it really is unbelievable, that right down the street, up the road and around the way over there in a 100,000 square foot building lies an institution with dedicated teachers staff and leaders whose sole purpose is to grow develop and enhance the artistic inclinations and beautiful gifts that lie within the souls of your children.
It is an honor to serve your young creatives, and I look forward to telling you all about all of the MAGNIFICENT things that are happening this school year at Chicago’s Best Kept “Not So” Secret!!!
Love,
Dion Steele Principal, Art in Motion
