12.16.22 Family Update

Important Dates

  • Dec. 22nd- Early Release @1:00PM

  • Dec. 23rd-Jan. 10th: Winter Break.

I am writing to share an important update regarding our Greenwood Campus going into shelter-in-place this morning.   We were informed of students who were planning to physically fight each other and had a physical altercation break out during a post-lunch transition.  As a result, we went into a shelter-in-pace which restricted movement around the building. We called the CPS Office of Student Safety and Security and addressed the specific students and announced all clear to return to non-restricted hallway passing.

Safety is our number one priority at school, and we take proactive measures to ensure the safety of our students and staff when potential dangers arise. We handled the events today swiftly and appropriately. Our staff and students responded to the situation well. As we have shared previously, we have been working diligently over the past few weeks to find more supportive environments for those students who have demonstrated that they are not aligned with our values and mission. The school code of conduct will be used to address any misconduct on the part of an AIM student and the perpetrators of these actions will be accountable for their actions. Student privacy law prevents us from discussing specifics, but I am happy to speak with you about any questions or concerns. As we navigate challenges like these, it is important that we provide opportunities for our students to talk and share their thoughts and concerns about the shelter-in-place experience. Remind them that they are supported by a school community that puts their safety and security first.
