Community. Creativity. Love. Excellence.

Greetings, AIM Family–

I am more than grateful to have crossed into 2023 - a year full of promise and possibilities. I am also grateful that you are here to journey with us to the next iteration of the vision that is Art In Motion.

I have done a great deal of reflecting this year. I was able to spend the top of January at a Dr. Martin L. King Educational Equity symposium where we supported the creation and development of educational practices to shift the course of education for black and brown students, ultimately impacting the education of all students. The TRUTH Framework of Dr. Denise Davis-Cotton, University of Southern Florida, Sarasota-Manatee Director, Professor and Researcher laid the foundation for our work as we moved through her continuum to TEACH, REACH, UNITE, TRANSFORM & HEAL. It is with that heart and mind that we work together to elevate practices and philosophies to touch the brightest tomorrows possible for our AIM students and community.

There is so much happening: Our students have been working passionately to bring you our Black History Month show, For The Culture Presents: Because I Am; we are beginning AIM Studio - Session 2 this quarter; we are seeing improvements in all domains - academically, behaviorally and artistically; our new building is looking incredible and we are working to plan small group tours so that you can see it, too! We. Are. Excited and grateful for all of it and for all of you!

Be well and focused on progress,

–Kara May, AIM Director of Partnerships & Creative Development

“Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.”
