WHAT IS ART IN MOTION?

  • Art In Motion (AIM) is a creative arts charter school authorized by Chicago Public Schools

  • AIM is a free, independent neighborhood public school open to all 7th-12th grade students, including English language learners and students with special needs.

  • AIM does not have special entrance requirements; AIM has the freedom to be innovative while maintaining high academic standards for advancing student achievement.

WHO CAN ATTEND ART IN MOTION?

  • AIM welcomes students who live in the city of Chicago.

  • AIM serves 7th-12th grade students.

DO STUDENTS NEED TO AUDITION TO ATTEND AIM?

  • There is no testing or audition requirement to attend AIM.

  • We encourage students to apply who have a passion for the arts, are seeking an arts based school experience, and want to prepare for their college and career plans after high school through the arts.

HOW DO I APPLY?

  • The 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade application for the 2024-25 school year is now open.  Click here to begin the application process.  You will a) create a parent/guardian account, then b) complete and submit the brief application.

  • Rising 9th graders for 2024-25 must rank Art In Motion in their GoCPS high school application.

  • Families who wish to apply for the current school year (2023-24) may apply for transfer admission by completing this form.  The enrollment team will contact your family within two business days.

WHEN CAN I VISIT ART IN MOTION?

  • Please join the Art In Motion team for a Fall 2024 Open House! 

    Meet school leaders, parents, students and staff, learn about Art In Motion's innovative academic, artistic, and social-emotional programming, enjoy student performances, and tour the AIM building! The first phase of AIM’s exciting 110,000 square foot expansion just opened for this school year, and we would love you to see it!

  • Open Houses will take place at 7415 S East End Ave on the following dates:

    • Wednesday, October 11 @ 6:00pm

    • Tuesday, October 24 @ 6:00pm

    • Tuesday, November 7 @ 6:00pm

  • Virtual Open House:

    • Thursday, November 2 @ 5:00pm

WILL THERE BE A LOTTERY TO ATTEND?

  • If there are more applicants than seats available for 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade students, AIM will hold a public lottery on April 17, 2024.  The lottery provides an equal chance admission for all students.  However, in an effort to keep families together, siblings of current Art In Motion students will receive preference in the lottery.


HOW DO I KNOW IF MY APPLICATION WAS ACCEPTED?

  • For rising 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students, you will receive a notification when your application has been received.  Families will be notified of acceptance status in April 2024.

  • For rising 9th grade students, offers will be released by GoCPS in March 2024.

  • For applications for the current school year, you will be notified of status within three business days.

WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS AFTER I AM NOTIFIED THAT I AM ACCEPTED?

  • Once you have accepted your seat within our online platform, you will schedule a time to register with our team to provide necessary student information to complete registration.
