What is Art In Motion?

  • Art In Motion (AIM) is a new creative arts charter school authorized by Chicago Public Schools

  • AIM is a free, independent neighborhood public school open to all 7th-12th grade students, including English language learners and students with special needs

  • AIM does not have special entrance requirements; AIM has the freedom to be innovative while maintaining high academic standards for advancing student achievement

Who can attend Art In Motion?

  • AIM welcomes students who live in the city of Chicago

  • In the 2019-2020 school year, AIM will serve 7th and 8th grade; there are 200 open seats

  • AIM will add one grade level each year to ultimately serve students in 7th - 12th grade

Do students need to audition to attend AIM?

  • There is no testing or audition requirement to attend AIM

  • We encourage students to apply who have a passion for the arts, are seeking an arts based school experience, and want to prepare for their college and career plans after high school through the arts

How do I apply?

  • The 7th and 8th grade application for the 2019-2020 school year is now available! Click here to apply.

  • The application deadline for 7th and 8th grade is Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 4:00pm CST. If you have any questions about the application process, please email aim@distinctiveschools.org

Will there be a lottery to attend?

  • If there are more applications received than seats available, AIM will hold a public lottery per IL State Law and CPS requirements. The public lottery provides an equal chance at admission for all applicants. However, in an effort to keep families together, the Art In Motion lottery will give preferential treatment to siblings

  • The lottery for 7th and 8th grade will be held on Monday June 3, 2019 at 5:00pm at the Art In Motion campus  

How do I know if my application was accepted?

  • Families will be notified via phone call and paper mail starting on Wednesday June 5, 2019 and will have until Wednesday, June 18, 2019 at 4pm to accept or decline their offer

  • In the event a lottery is needed, families will be notified via Email and Text immediately following the lottery on June 3, 2019 of their acceptance or position on the waiting list

  • Families will be notified via Email and Text immediately as spots open up in order of the position on waitlist

What are the next steps after I am notified that I am accepted?

  • Once you have accepted your seat within our online platform, you will receive a school registration link to provide necessary student information to complete registration
